E-Denial in PvE Pointless? *Slightly new to Mesmer in PvE*
Well, I don't really know how I'd go about looking it up, and I've read a few helpful articles for playing a Mesmer in PvE however, I was wondering though, would playing a Energy-Denial class Mesmer be Non-viable? Or do the monsters have an amount of energy equal to what we have? I've played very little of the Mesmer class, and only that little experience comes from PvPing, and I was trying to think of something I'd like to try while going through the game in PvE with my own Mesmer now since I hadn't made one in all 3 of the campaigns I've played over the past 15 Months lol. So if anyone could tell me if I'm waisting my time trying Energy Denying the creatures of the Prophecies,Factions, and Nightfall campaigns, it'd be of great help lol.
*And by Denying I mean the skills such as Mind Wrack,Energy Surge, Energy Burn, Signet of Weariness, Shame etc.*

Well, I remember always having mesmers around when farming for Kephkets Refuge so he/she/it couldn't heal. So yeah, I guess it does work.
I don't think it's really effective though, because in PvE you don't need to e-deny or shame a monk when spiking , unlike in GvG etc. In fact, you won't find much monks in PvE.

I suppose you're right. Even if I was denying..it's damage (Surge/Burn)..but not like I'd get from in PvP or GvG (Combod with Shame and Mind Wrack) as you mentioned. I guess an Interupt/Illusion line would fit nicely then instead of straight Domination, so I can interupt the casters casting spells that'd hurt..such as AoE or Hexes etc. And then Illusion like clumsiness or Phantasm for others. Thanks.

actually, if you run dom and inspiration, it works really well:
Energy Surge{E}
Energy Burn/Spiritual Pain
Wastrel's Worry
Shatter Delusions/Backfire
Web of Disruption/Empathy
Spirit of Failure/ Other energy skill
Ether Feast
Res Sig
This build works great in pve, ive used it many times. You may also consider running a FC Nuker or FC Air Spike build, they deal a lot of damage and get the job done effectively and quickly.

straight energy denial in pve is pointless, unless you doing it for a specific reason like farming a boss such as rotscale. a build that you would use to shutdown a monk, for example, in pvp would have little or no affect in pve because you kill a broad range of things too frequently to keep up. some energy denial skills are good to use though like energy surge and energy burn......i like to use energy burn+energy surge+spiritual pain in both pve and pvp.

In PVE the fights are so fast you really only need to concentrate on killing things quicker and/or keeping people alive.
As a mesmer you should probably focus more on doing damage to the enemy while interrupting their skills/spells and/or causing their skills/spells to fail. As was already said, you can use e-denial on certain bosses effectively.

Yeah, with Frustration in a Illusion/FC build we can do damage, degen and also stop those darn ele monsters from getting off the big spells.
I'm wondering something a lot lately. Most people, myself included go for the healer first, dps second and tank last. But in Nightfall it seems that the dps is the biggest concern to me, namely the eles. Dervishes seem to take a while to kill and I'm going to say they should be left till last?

Energy denial in PvE has its places, although it's not always the most efficient way to go. Energy Burn/Surge can be extremely useful for a quick spike of damage when you synchronise your efforts with your party's nuker, but overall I prefer to use interrupts to prevent the most dangerous skills from being used by the enemy (the role I play in the party I travel with is usually anti-caster as it is, so I'm usually loaded with quick and cheap interrupts along with Backfire).
One thing to note though is that monster AI in PvE will usually completely ignore the effects of hexes on them. For example, a Backfired caster will keep on casting and taking damage, and a Spirit Shackled warrior will keep on attacking and losing energy. Remember to use this to full advantage

The problem is simple, energy denial only really works in prolonged fights, and mobs have no problem dumping their entire energy bar in a matter of seconds to kill you. Since you're usually encountering several of the same mob, and you can only deny one at a time, you're basically taking out 20% or so of the incoming damage, after considerable setup time, and then aside from that you're not really doing that much unless e-surge nukes a big crowd. You'd be better off just killing them or smacking them with blackout.
One needs look no further than ice imps, or the elementalist NPCs in AB. Both are seen as tremendously threatening, yet if you were to try doing what they do, you'd be out of energy in no time.

Yea, I agree with the masses that e-denial in PvE is not really worth using. I'm sure it might work somewhere, but in general, enemies simply die too quickly.
